    Energy Cost per Shower

    You will be figuring out how muchenergy each shower uses and then calculate what the cost is for each shower to run. The purpose of this activity is to show how much it really costs for each time you take a shower; you may or may not be surprised by the results.

    Materials List:


    Extra paper (for solving equations)
    Pencil (for recording data)
    Computer (to search for data)

    Procedure


    1. Get all the supplies necessary to obtain the information that you will require. This includes this paper, a pencil, a computer; and an extra piece of paper to solve equations for further steps.

    2. Go to the following website http://10.14.4.9/cgi-bin/EMCcgi

    3. Locate the Datum Keyword in the top middle of the webpage and search "Perry"

    4. Open all of the the following Pages upon the search of "Perry" excluding "Perry Fiske Total Count (88)"Download file "Screen Shot 2016-12-02 at 1.21.11 PM.png"

    5. Obtain the two times for which you are going to record shower data for; have these be for one shower period (you'll be able to tell).

    6. Subtract the larger gallon amount with the smaller one to obtain the gallons and then convert that into grams

    7. For the same time selected subtract the two temperatures and find the temperature in Celsius to obtain the Change in temperature.

    8. Find Energy Used by using the equation in Useful Information.

    9. Find Cost.

    Equation for finding heat:
    Q(energy used) = grams(mass) x Water(1.00) x Change in temperature(IN CELSIUS)

    Equation for Converting F to C:
    (F - 32) .5556 = C

    Information for gallons and grams:
    1 Gallon = 9109.71 Grams

    Finding kWh:
    kW x 5Hours = kWh

    Cost Per kWh = .5$
