    Projectile motion challenge:

Your challenge is to use the simulations below to create your own projectile motion test lab.

Keep in mind what makes something a "projectile"

    1. no wings

    2. no motor

    3. gravity

    4. some sort of launch angle (you could argue that 90° is an angle, but I don't recommend it)

    Things to try:

    • different launch angles
    • different launch velocities
    • simulate something you did in person here at the elab (balcony drop, fun with the hose, tennis ball madness)
    • try something really crazy, like a launch velocity over 12,000 m/s (think about this one for next class)
In each case, verify your results with the formula below:

We often shorten this formula to look like this:

    Range = V2/g * Sin2theta

Here are the simulations I found, you are welcome to find cooler ones online. Make sure to take notes on this for the next quiz!

Most of all, have fun with this. It may come in handy if you ever want to:

    • win at golf, basketball, shotput, baseball, archery, discus, javelin, horseshoes, tiddly winks...
    • drop packages from an airplane
    • become a cliff diver
    • want to shoot things into orbit
    • play with rocks on mars
    • shoot bananas to falling monkeys
