Special Characters
===================================================================
The dictionary includes a number of diacritic marks and other
special characters that are used in pronunciations and
definitions. In some cases, letters with accents or other
diacritics will appear lowercased when the surrounding word
appears as in small capitals (as in cross-references). If you
double-click on such a word, the program will attempt to find
an entry for it, but may not recognize the lower-cased letter
or may drop it from the word. In these cases, you may need to
retype the word (without the accent or other diacritic) to see
its entry.

Using M-W Link

To use M-W Link, follow the steps outlined below.
1. Be sure M-W Link is activated and running in the background,
or (Mac) the MW Extension is loaded and initialized.
2. Highlight the word you want to look up.
3. Press CTRL+ALT+M; Mac users, press CTRL+OPTION+M

KNOWN BUGS
===================================================================
* The close button is missing or absent on art windows. You
can close illustrations or tables by clicking outside the art
window or by using the "minimize" option.
* On opening the program, the cursor may appear in a field other
than the Main Entry field. You can move the cursor to the
proper field by clicking in that field or by using the TAB key.
* M-W Link experiences some problems with 32-bit native applications
under Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0: these include Internet Explorer
3.0 and higher as well as Microsoft Office 97. Check our website
(www.m-w.com) for upgrades to M-W Link.
* Macintosh users may experience some difficulties setting the path for M-W Link.
For best results, set the path in the M-W Link application (under "Advanced"),
click the "Apply" button and save the settings on exit. Restart the computer to
initialize the MW Extension. Then try the hot keys. If M-W Link still cannot
find the dictionary, try setting the path a second time without restarting.
* Some Macintosh users may experience conflicts between the
MW Extension and ATM extension or Maclinkplus extension.
Macintosh users may also find that MW Link will not work with
some versions of Microsoft Excel.
* Occasionally, Windows users may encounter the message "This application uses
CTL3DV2.DLL which has not been correctly installed" during installation. This
indicates that a previous version of the file exists in the system. This bug will not
interfere with the program's performance.
