Software Instructions for Vertex USB Cable users: Step 1: Install the USB cable drivers A: Restart your PC B: After PC has returned to fully operational - plug in the USB cable (do not plug in the radio to the cable yet) C: Your PC should then tell you that it has "found new hardware" and ask you if you would like to "install this hardware". D: Insert the small CD ROM and click "yes" or "install" on your PC. E: The drivers for the cable should install automatically and when complete your PC should tell you that the cable is "installed and working correctly" Step 2: Load the Radio Software (Large CD ROM) A: Insert the large CD ROM. B: Click on view files on CD or if nothing happens, go to your PC's start button and go to "Computer". Double click the CD ROM drive C: Find the file setup.exe (application file) and double click it - the install wizard will start. D: Follow the steps in the wizard noting where you installed the software on your PC so you can find it. E: Continue with install wizard until finished. F: Find the software installed on your PC and double click the radio icon to start the software. Step 3: Establish communications between the PC and the radio A: Turn on the radio B: Run radio software C: Attach programming cable to the PC and the radio D: Click on Menu item "Radio" and choose "Upload" E: Turn your radio off and then back on again (handheld radios only) F: If a communication error occurs then click on menu item "File" and choose "Configure" G: Change the comport to comport 2 and repeat steps D thru F, If comport 2 fails, try comport 3, If comport 3 fails, try comport 4, If comport 4 fails, keep going -eventually you should establish communications on one of the comports up to comport 20 or so F: Once the software reads the radio you can then fill in the blanks with the necessary frequencies, name channels, change settings etc. G: Once you are done filing in all necessary programming info go to menu item "File" and "Save AS" to save your information as a file (make sure you store the file on your PC in a location where you are able to find it later for reference). H: Go to menu item "Radio" and choose "Download" I: Turn the radio off and then back on again, the software will program the radio and programming is now complete.
