    Today I looked back into "Harmonizing the National Footprint Accounts With the System of Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting" and looked closely at the UN's calculations for biocapacity, ecological footprint of consumption, and ecological footprint, respectively. I copied these equations in to my journal, since I personally prefer having these things written out by hand. It seems like to calculate the biocapacity, which is the main source of measurement, you would need: area available for a given land use type, yield (could exports be taken into account here?) and EQF (equivalence factors).

    BC= (A)(YF)(EQF)

    To switch this to energy focus it depends on current vs. future measurements. Future measurements that calculate the capabilities of energy dependency would integrate the A variable. Especially if you look at land mass capable of developing renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. This is the process that Parker Ranch is going through right now since they have a high A variable=high potential energy sources.

    I will talk with Dr. Bill about measurement focuses.
