Today we had a lot of solitary time to work our own individual projects. I choose to do research of biomimicry and how it is being applied to skin and potentially skin grafting. Currently our best motive of gathering skin is by removing it from a section of your body, a dead person’s body, or a pig. A large issue associated with this is that you are left heavily scarred if you take skin form your own body and in some cases the skin can not “take” and can die as it is attempting to heal. With the new frontier of bio engineering we are begging to gather the tools to build live skin cells in a petri dish from genetically engineered stem cells. This is the future of medicine and in reconstructive surgery. Instead of having a typical implant no matter how exact the implant may be we will eventually reach a point were we can grow an implant from your own genetic code and implant that. This would potentially eliminate the long recovery times associated with broken bones and burns. We would no longer change you but simply aid your own cells to work faster, be stringer, and be better equipped to heal you. With imaging and biomimicry surgery will be changed forever.

This is a bit novel but it is interesting. It talks about growing cultured meat cells in a lab instead of killing animals. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/supermeat-real-meat-without-harming-animals-food-technology#/
