    Weekend Summary #4

This week I received a 3D scanner that I can use to create models of the face to begin the digital portion of my project.

I also did quite a lot of research on CRISPR. In AP Bio we are just moving into the basics of DNA and transcription and translation. CRISPR stands for clustered regularly interspersed Shot Palindromic repeats. This means that in the DNA there are uniformly spaced segments the begin and end with the same codon. These segments are thought to be the beginning of the immune system. Bacteria use them as makers to separate out little segments of virus RNA that they have collected. This way they can create a searchable database of RNA that can help the bacteria in its immune response. There is also another aspect to CRISPR which is the CAS 9 enzyme. This enzyme os a part of the CRISPR process. it binds to a segment of DNA and cuts it away. This segment can be fully deleted or it can be replaces with another sequence of nucleotides. This system is extremely cost effective and reliably simple o understand. It also works in almost all organism meaning that its effect are over arching and it can be used in variety of different genetic entering applications.

We are will be receiving a basic CRISPR- CAS 9 Nuclease kit in which we can engineering a bacteria to glow in the dark. Im excited for this because it will allow me to visualize the potential that this tool is capable of. I am personally a visual learner so being able to see how to extract DNA edit it insert it and watch the organism change will be incredible.
