Week 7 Quarter 4 5/8/17-5/12/17

Alohikea-

This week we finally started to get our hand on the project. After a very busy week with a lot of extra things we needed to do, we finally started completing the wiring and making everything look good. It was a little difficult with us getting more progress with needing to share the space with a classmate. We also accidently grabbed the wrong solenoid so we need to switch that next week. It will be hard due to the fact it is the final week, I will be going to school instead of the Senior Service day to hopefully complete our project. We need to make a lot of progress if we want to present our robot on thursday.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This past week we accomplished a lot. Finally able to work on our project we made leaps and bounds with only this week. This shows that when we finally have a plan and time to implement such plan we can get a great amount done in a short amount of time. We wired up and fixed the compressors. We also planned out our solenoid wires and are prepared to finish that up. While my partner Alohikea worked on the wires i worked on the pneumatic piping and cut those out while also finishing up the last pieces on the solenoid. We now just need to finish the wire and put everything together. Not Great……. But better times in the robot kingdom.

Week 6 Quarter 4 4/30/17-5/6/17

Alohikea-

This week we had a few setbacks being a speaker came in but it was very interesting and my partner was gone due to sporting events. I didn't do to much on the project but I did plan a lot about how we want our presentation to look and how we want people to look at our project. We really need to get out robot done. At this point we just need to get the guts back in the robot and start testing it. It is a little late to be testing but we need to get at the polishing stage.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week I was gone again for sporting events and we had class speakers. An businessmen had came in to talk about civil engineering. This was a very interesting presentation and i was very inspired by the work but in the end it did keep us away from our work once again. Our final presentation is coming up and the exhibition is also coming up and these other activities are taking away from our project. It is a very rough ti-me in the Robot Kingdom.:(

Week 5 Quarter 4 4/25/17-4/29/17

Alohikea-

This week we did our interviews. I had mine and it was fun and intense. I definitely could have been more prepared for it and I wish I could have a second chance but that it not likely. After that we did not do much on the robot except a few touch ups. I was getting ready for a sport trip and an AP the next week. Although we didn't do much this week, i do feel we are making progress to finishing our second prototype. I am looking forward for next week and I want to make more progress.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week I had my interview. This was a scary and much needed experience. The intimidation of mr halstead was very similar to what i assume an interviewer would be like. It was very nerve racking and really pushed me on how to think and act on my toes in pressure situations. The next day we had to catch up on paperwork and ended up only doing minimal work on the actual project. The friday we had left to go to a lacrosse tournament so that is another day we weren't able to get anything done. As we get closer and close to the end of the year the blockers seem to be stacking up and keeping us away from the endgame of our project. Rough week for the Robot Kingdom.

Week 4 Quarter 4 4/16/17-4/24/17

Alohikea-

For this past week, we didn't do much on our project because we got busy with our career prep. We focused more on that and getting ready for our job interview with Mr. H. I know we did a lot of brainstorming about our project but not much physical labor. I did my Job interview on a google engineering position and I was able to talk about our Independent project while in the mock interview and I was really proud. I got to step back and really reflect on what we have done this r=year and we have come a long way. I was happy to showcase what we did though words to someone else other than the people that already knew about it or helped start it (even if the interviewer was still Mr. H). I had fun this week.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week we did a lot of career work. We did our job hunt while also getting ready for our mock interview. The job hunt and decision took most of a class and was time lost on our projects. The next day we did mostly prep work and research for such job interview. We are doing a lot of helpful work for our future but the more of this kind of work we do, the further behind our project is. It is a rough trade off, signing off. Robot Kingdom.

Week 3 Quarter 4 4/9/17-4/15/17

Alohikea-

This week we did not do as much as we wanted to do. I missed a few classes and my partner missed one and we both were not there. We didn’t get much done but we plan to do a lot more next week if we have time between our job interview things we need to do next week.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This past week there was many blockers. My partner was gone on the first day and we were both gone on the second day. There is only three days in a week and we were gone for most of it. The last day was friday and we were both there. We tried our best to get everything together but had minimal time due to the early scrum for resume and job interviews. After we do our interview workshop and talk we will jump right back in and get rolling.

Week 2 Quarter 4 4/2/17-4/8/17

Alohikea-

This week finished wiring soldering the connections for the compressors and started and almost completed the wiring for the solenoids. We planned out where we want to put the tubes connected to the compressor and connected to the solenoids. We started to plan out how we would like to place the plexiglass. Also the rest of our parts came in so now we don't have to stretch the amount of wore we have and can really color coordinate our wiring system. We have a lot of work ahead of us and hopefully we can finish in time.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This past week we continued on our quest of the completion of the wiring of every circuit. Our progress is very slow but we finally got our stuff!!! We would like to create a 3rd prototype after everything is completed and sorted out but i don't believe we will have enough time. The next week coming up will include planning for plexiglass, wiring for the solenoids and the compressors. We didn't get a lot done but have huge aspirations.

Week 1 Quarter 4 3/27/17-3/31/17

Alohikea-

This week we just got back from spring break. The first day we couldn’t do much because our supplies did not come in yet but it was good because some people came in and we needed to explain our project for the visitors. They came down stairs and we showed them what we were doing. I was a good first day because it got us right back in where we were in our project and I mentally got back on track. For the rest of the week, we were very productive in making a small checklist and getting our wiring in order. We started rewiring everything and it's starting to look very nice and professional. Hopefully by next week, we can start placing wires and tubes and put the guts back into our robot crush cans.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week we just came off of spring break. This was a productive week because we finally got some of the supplies we needed to continue on. First we stripped our prototype of all its wiring and electronic components because we knew it was fried. After doing so we took note of the new supplies we had and what was coming. We figured out our system and have started wiring everything up again. Hopefully we run into less problems this time around. We still need to figure out how to incorporate the plexiglass and our platform for the pushing component. Other than that it is a great time in the robot kingdom.

Week 7 2/21/17-2/25/17

Alohikea-

This week we saw a lot of problems with our wiring. We ended up needing to re do all of it but we don't have enough wire to do so. We made a list that should be ready by next week to give to mr. H to buy more brackets and solid core wire. We also wanted to have different colors to help us label our positives from our negatives. I also started to look at what tubing we would like to use and how we would like to secure them to our box. This should be a fun job. We also started to make more progress on how we would like it to look once we finish making the guts work. I don't know if it will be ready for olympics week but i sure hope so.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This past week we ran into a lot of problems. Having burnt through a bunch of our wires while testing our pneumatics and solenoids we have run out to finish off our last wiring connections. We tried to hook everything up to have a working can crusher with simple switches. While doing this we found our more than one of our connections were weak or broken. This caused problems with an uneven pressure and sometimes no switch in the solenoids. This cause was a huge problem and what came next was only worse. We had run out of wire for our system. We now need to order/buy more wire and connections in order to complete the beginning half of our prototype. On the bright side the box is still strong and doesn't seem to be taking any damage any time soon. Overall….. It is a struggle some time in the robot kingdom.

Week 6 2/14/17-2/18/17

Alohikea-

This week we didn't have much time due to a short week but what we did was a lot of paperwork and future planning. We started to make a new list of materials that we would need to make our latest prototype be the best version of itself. We hope to make a working prototype that will function with just two switches. I also started to brainstorm on how we can dispose of the crushed cans so it's all one smooth processes.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This past week i was absent for half the week so i wasn't able to do much. I was only there for the last class and we did do some work on our compressors. We were able to further our connections on the solenoids. Again I wasn't there most of last week so we're having strugglesome times in the robot kingdom.

Week 5 2/7/2017-2/12/2017

Alohikea-

This week we focused on making our wiring nice. We went over each component looking to make sure none of the connections were faulty. We also had our meeting with Mr. H about our monthly check up. We also started to plan out where we would like to lay all the wires and tubes trying to make a very nice clean look. We also started to brainstorm how we want to mobilize it and how we want our robot to look. There was also some talk about getting R4EL ready for olympics week where students can use it and we can see how it functions in the world without us. This test will be a good way to see what may break due to wrong things being put inside. It was also help to hear some feedback from the students who use it which will help in the future run of our project. Hopefully our robot will be a big successes.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week past week we did a lot with the wires on our compressors. We finally hooked everything up through our trials and errors. My partner alohikea even went as far as ruining an alligator clip while testing. This was a productive week and i believe it was a huge step in getting our project done. Our next steps will include using the piping to hook up the compressors, pneumatics and solenoids. Along with that we still need to make the “push plate” for the crushing portion. This seems difficult but once we take different looks at it i'm sure we’ll be able to solve this problem. All in all it's a good time in the robot kingdom.

Week 4 1/31/17-2/5/17

Alohikea-

During this week we started to put everything back into the box. We started getting the final touches and now we are just planning out where to put the wires and tubes so that they look nice and organized. I started to re wire all the connection and put another switch for the compressors and add a switch for the solenoids. With this we can make sure all the connections are correct and nice. We also started to add mini boxes onto the sides of the box and added cushion for the compressors so when they raddled they won't move as much. We also started to pre drill all the holes needed to run all the wires and tubes through the box. Hopefully this next week we can get all the pneumatics properly working and start crushing cans.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

This week we did a lot of construction on our box. We ended up using the brackets to hold up our compressor. We also came up with the idea to use foam to cover the screws so that they don't damage the compressors. This took awhile to figure out but then we just came up with the simplest solution in the end reminding us how overthinking and overcomplicating things isn't always best. After that we started working on the pneumatic solenoids again. This was good because as we were hooking everything up for our final prototype we noticed one of them went bad again. Because we had taken apart the solenoids and put them back together we knew how to simply switch some parts out and everything would work. We are moving along our project really well and should finish our second prototype soon.

Week 3 1/25/17-1/29/17

Alohikea-

This week we tackled the pneumatic solenoid system and finally got it to work. We found out how to power the solenoid and make it function with pushing and pulling the cylinder. We tested all four of the solenoids and found out three of them work. We also found out the first one we were trying to troubleshoot ended up being the one that didn’t work so we thought we were doing something wrong but it was actually a broken one. So through this we have two working solenoids with one backup just in case. The next step will be to automate it with an arduino and make it functional through a sensor or computer.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

During this week we only had the workshop for one day out of our regular 3 class week. This is due to our scheduling with sienna. Although this happened we still accomplished a lot. On the first day Alohikea(my partner) researched and looked into the solenoid research. Because of the huddles we had last week we spend the first day back to the computer and the drawing board. While he was doing that, I continued to try an attempt at making the crushing panel and the boxes for the battery and our compressors. I had a hard time thinking of ideas for this so i ending up helping alohikea on the second day. We were able to get the solenoid working and spend our last day testing the other pneumatic systems and solenoids seeing if we need more. This past week was a very productive one and i see good things coming.

Week 2 1/15/17-1/22/17

Alohikea-

This week we did a lot, Elijah worked on the box for our prototype. He made a lot of progress in making the structure to hold the pneumatics into place. Me and Mr. H tackled the solenoid problem. We took apart our solenoids to try and figure out how to power the system. We saw that we need to buy thicker wire so that we can use the 12V battery to power it. We ran into a lot of problems not knowing what we are looking at because we don't have any schematics on how they work. We eventually saw that the pneumatics need pressure in order to fully work so we did a quick test by hooking up the compressor. We found out how it works as in when you need to put the air in order for it to come out the other end. But through this discovery, we need to hook up one more compressor to fully understand how these solenoids really work.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

During this past week me and my partner alohikea got a lot done. I managed to fix some problems with our previous model and ensured some stability in the can crushing system. While i was doing that alohikea and mr.halstead made great strides in the solenoid systems. I've also tested and failed at a couple attempts at trying to create the crushing pallets. I've also been mapping up how to hold the battery and the compressors. Creating this box is some what a challenge but i hope to complete it by this week.

Semester 2 Week 1 1/9/2017-1/13/2017

Alohikea-

This week was the the first week back from winter break. We didn't do much besides making ISR more user friendly for the students taking the course. We also worked on updating our project plan for this second semester. We saw that much didn't change and that our original phases that we set for our project was straightforward and was not needed to be changed. We also saw that we completed two of the four phases that we created for ourselves in the beginning of the year. It looks like we are making great progress and hope to have another successful semester.

Elijah/Kupaianaha-

During this week me and my partner Alohikea had to really get back into the groove of things. Coming off of winter break was challenging because the focus was not on the project and we used the week to really re-evaluate where we were and how to move forward. Along with this we were also able to work on our new and updated project planning deliverable. This is actually helped because we were able to look back and see what we had accomplished while looking at the next steps and could start to see what and how to attack the obstacles ahead. This week has been a good kick start and i can't wait to dive back in.

Week 15 11/20-11/23

Alohikea-

This week we had one day and i worked on our bullet connectors and we didn’t have enough time because we gave the room to Sienna for the first part of class. So thats a blocker that we have to share the room but that's okay. We are also gonna start on our next prototype because we just got our new supplies so we are excited.

Elijah-

This week we only had one class and half of it was taken up by another student and their independent test. We plan to get a lot done next week.

  1. Take photos of old prototype

  2. Start Cutting out New Prototype

  3. Finish bullet connectors

Week 14 11/13-11/19

Alohikea-

This week we broke our robot but in a good way. We got our prototype to work but we need a sturdier back where the cans are being crushed. So now we know what we need to improve on. I also talked with alec to see if he would let me use some of the bullet connects for my Y connection on my wires. I needed these things because of the way the wires worked and the way the krimp works they were just falling apart but now they should work better with these bullet connectors. I'm excited to work on it.

Elijah-

This past week was very productive for us. We got our material list in while continuing to work on the revisions of our first prototype. All worked out great. Our limited time in the workshop does hold us back a bit but we do make the most of the time we have. Towards the end of the week we finished the revisions on the first prototype and tested it multiple times. After a few test we saw that the box was breaking ultimately seeing the demise and falling of our first prototype. All is good because our new materials are coming in and were moving along really well!!!!

  1. Work on Prototype 3.0

  2. Start Cutting out New Prototype

  3. Hopefully get Materials

Week 13 11/6-11/12

Alohikea-

This week was a short week and we only had one day down in the workshop but with that little time we solved our resolution of our first prototype and set it all up so we can complete in the next time we have the workshop because we gave sienna the room on the second day. Though we did not work on our prototype, we did make our final material list for our second prototype and shared it with Mr. H who will order them for us so we can get started on building our second prototype. I can't wait for all the new material to come in so we can improve our ideas.

Elijah-

This past week we didn't have a lot of time because of the short week. We continued to work on our prototype and tried to get it to function again after the multiple failed testing. Some wood pieces weren't as strong and we had to redo them. Because we only had one day in the lab last week we spent the other day working on the supply list for our next prototype. We finished our list and sent it in to Mr.H. All is good in the Robot Kingdom.

  1. Finish prototype 1.0

  2. Find correct metal screws

  3. Crush more cans

Week 12 11/1-11/6

Alohikea-

This we we finished our prototype!!!! Everything looks good but we did run into a problem with the integrity of the wood that is attached to the pneumatics. The wood broke because there was too much power on the bottom of the wood and it almost cracked the wood but we saved it in time and then we bolted it down which did help alot. Then we found out that we needed blocks that was long enough so the pneumatics could fit and be long enough to smash the cans. We finally have it done and we are planning on our second prototype.

Elijah-

This week we FINISHED OUR PROTOTYPE!!!!!!!! We tested it and A LOT went wrong. The prototype basically broke. After the first testing day we made a lot of improvements in our box prototype. We enforced the walls with more wood and changed one of the pneumatics so that it fit the other to size now supplying the same amount of pressure. We also fixed the wires for the compressor because when we tested the prototype the first time it compromised our wires and we saw the flaws in our system We are taking huge steps now and im happy with our progress.

  1. Material List for Next Prototype

  2. First prototype 2.0(Get supplies to finish)

  3. Test Prototype 2.0

Week 11 10/26-11/2

Alohikea-

This week we are close to finishing our first prototype and it looks really good. We tested our compressors and they work really good together. Right now we are making a plate that will connect to our pneumatics so that we can have two pneumatics crushing at the same time. We are having a hard time screwing them on because the bar the needs to be screwed in is not secured to we are trying to find something that will stop it from spinning so we can get the board on top of it. Another problem we have it that we need machinery screws so we can secure the two compressors to the prototype so that they do not move. We are making very good progress.

Elijah-

This week we almost finished our prototype!!! The box is almost finished and the compressors are functioning well. The pneumatics has a bit more to go but it's all in line to start testing next week. Im very excited for this testing. I have high hopes and big expectations for this machine. The only thing worry about is the integrity of the box. Because the cans are very durable and stable when the integrity is not compromised the power from the pneumatics may break the wood.Next week will be a good week with alot of progress.

  1. Material List for Next Prototype

  2. Finish First prototype(Get supplies to finish)

  3. Test First Prototype

Week 10 10/18-10/25

Alohikea-

I worked on our compressors and trying to make our second one work. We now are looking at making them both work at the same time. We started putting the prototype together and we used really nice screws that are really too much but they look really nice. I am having a blast making our recycling robot.

Elijah-

This week we worked on our prototype a lot. We started to cut out all the pieces for the prototype and started drilling it together. We run into multiple obstacles with the drills and the saws. We also helped Sienna with a part of her brainwaves project. Overall it was a very productive week.

  1. Fix Drills

  2. Finish prototype

  3. Test Box/Prototype
