This week in ISR I worked on my Capstone final presentation and white paper. I also missed a class due to a baseball game. With school coming to an end, ISR is a great place to take a break from the avalanche of assignments.

This week in ISR I worked on my capstone project everyday. The system leaked because the pvc glue that was around was super old and had the consistency of cottage cheese. The other challenge was bending the pipe, as the 1 inch pipe was to thick to bend without creasing. My solution to this was using a pvc 90 elbow and fit it inside the 1 inch tube. Thankfully the 1/2 inch pipe was able to bend. Overall despite kinda being a failure, the concept is there and it works. I want to build another system in a space with readily available tools.

This week in ISR I only attended one class. In that class Jared and I started to cable manage the PC by the laser cutter. I need a heat gun :(

This week in ISR I taught Jared a couple things about driving that he wasn't sure about. I also organized all of the driving sim apps. I did a lot of work on my capstone hydroponic project which was making a bigger 5x5 reservoir, replacing the plant trough with a 3 plant instead of 4 plant, gluing everything together, and cutting my hoses to length. I still need to bend my hoses and figure out a way to have access to the bottom reservoir so I can do maintainence. Finally I started working on cable management for the sim station, which is A LOT of wires. Despite the challenge I want to do a really good job that I'm proud of.

This week in ISR we had two classes. In the first class I worked on my capstone project, planning what I can do better with the next design because I'm not proud with my results. On my second class I worked on the driving simulator and finally figured out how to get the forced feedback to work on one of the sims. It has the ability to install mods so I want to find a traffic mod to make it more realistic for people looking to learn how to drive. I have seen a huge improvement from when Jared first started driving and I think that the sim has a lot of potential. I don't even think Jared would've started driving if it wasn't for the sim.

This week of ISR was cut short due to a covid scare, meaning we only had two classes. On Monday I planned to conduct an experiment to figure out how to have an idea of ec in a hydroponic system without a meter. However if one has the brain capacity to read the labels, it has instructions for exactly that. On Wednesday I just retaught jared the basics of driving.

This week in ISR we had 2 classes. On Tuesday, Eddie and I spent the class tracing wires from the elab to sensors up on the hill. I stayed inside while eddie went out, and we communicated using walkie-talkies. The tool we used had a scan mode, where I would plug one end in from the building, and eddies tool would play a frequency based off of how close he is, we used this to label all the wires. On Thursday, Alec, Eddie and I all worked on the new gas tank for the generator. Alec actually knows a lot about boat stuff which was interesting. For the rest of clas, parts for my capstone project came in so I made sure everything was there.

This week in ISR we only had 2 classes due to the long weekend. On Wednesday I just started welding mounting brackets for my hydroponic system for capstone. I started with the MIG welder but it was set up incorrectly, so I switched to the arc welder. I got some pretty solid welds but I only finished one. On Friday eddie and I took pieces of wood to get a pallet off the ground. This is because dr.bill wants to weather and ant proof the weather station electronics. For the rest of class we correctly set up the MIG welder.

On Tuesday, eddie and I attempted to fix the wifi extender in the workshop. We hard reset it, and dr.bill worked his magic to no avail. We then helped the telescope kids for a brief moment, and then grabbed solar panels for his next class, which was learning about efficiency. On Thursday eddie and I got to weld for the entire class. I haven't welded in a while so it was pretty rough. Eddie on the other hand was doing pretty well. As I am writing this, I'm in the middle of working on my truck.

This week in ISR we only had two classes. On Tuesday, Eddie and I were given the task of solving the tennis center network switch. The information we were given is that random people were using the wifi so presumably there was no password. We spent a lot of time actually trying to find the switch because we thought it was inside. We eventually located the switch and everything made sense. The password was right there on top of it, explaining the random people. All we did was take off the password so it was still usable if you had permission. On Friday I just had some input from others on how the driving simulator felt, and did some work for my capstone. I still need to find a bracket that will work with my design, but I'll most likely custom fab one.

This week in isr we continued the process of figuring out personal projects. On Monday eddie and I were tasked with fixing a co2 sensor in the downstairs work shop. It was still functional however the sensor just went bad. Dr.Bill had several extras that cost about 750 a pop. We installed the new one but was not able to get around to mounting it properly. However switching over the sensor is easy a pie. On Wednesday I worked alone trying to find a simple free card software. Which is actually a lot harder than you think to find. I tried using a program called Blender which is practically rocket science. It's no surprise that I plan on never using it again. On Friday, I missed class because I had to go to a haircut appointment.

In this week of ISR:
We finally got back to in person classes and our personal projects. On the first day I hooked everything back up for the driving simulator and reset the steering wheel, because someone made a lot of changes. I then "tested" it out to make sure it felt good. The next day, eddie and I started on a new project. While using mango, almost all of us noticed the fact that at around the same time every day, the solar radiation dips an unusual amount. This is because during the winter the location of the sensor does not allow sunlight to reach it for a brief period. To remedy this, we moved it to the roof at the top of the robotics lab. We ran it to a new switch, and as far as we can tell, it works. All that's left is to wait and see if there's any further problems on mango.

This week we continued to use the dashboard to measure various things. Next week we'll be back in person and can start normal projects. For my project I want to either get into stocks or learn 3d modeling.

This week we started doing data analysis around campus, using a new website for the school. With it there is so much information you can gather from it. For example, you can tell how cloudy it was that day, by looking at the solar radiation. Another thing you can look for is leaks in water lines and tanks. Overall a very useful tool if you take the time to thoroughly examine the data.

Monday 30- I finally finished mapping all the buttons and putting all the basic stuff cars have such as turn signals, parking brakes, headlights, hazards, etc. The force feedback can use more calibration, as its really makes the simulator unique. I also found a driving school mod that teaches the basics. After giving it a try, I think its the best we can get. Just a little more calibration over all and it will be great.

Wednesday 2- Today we talked for thew whole class, we talked about what we want to do for our final, and what we will do for the two weeks of online school. I think as for the online segment of class, a later temp check would be best to see what we are interested in doing at the time.

Friday 4- Today I was more focused on doing my college essay. On the side I also let Jared try the driving school, and hes definitely improving. I think the simulator has played a big role in this, as it informs you when you damage something. It seems Jareds main problem is managing the clutch, as he stalls a lot and grinds gears. Im trying to teach him how to use the clutch more realistically, but the only problem is that you cant feel a bite point.

I dont need anything as of right now, but anymore ideas for my capstone would be appreciated.

Tuesday 17th: I helped eddie and Kyle with their safety check video. I also taught Jared about what mechanical parts are on a car and how they all interact, to help with his learning I also found several supplementary videos.
Friday 20th: I found a new simulation that is highly realistic and has a physics engine in it. My thought process behind this is that in other games, crashing really has no consequences. However in this one, body panels will break, gas will leak, tires will fall off, etc. Also most importantly brake distance is accurate.

My plan for next class is to bind buttons to stuff you need in real life, such as blinkers, headlights, wipers, parking brake, etc.

This week we only had two classes. I helped with some small stuff around the elab and started teaching Jared how to drive standard. He's still pretty bad but a lot better than before. I think the problem is that DiRT, despite being a simulation, seems too much like a game. I think I should look for a better alternative game.

This week in ISR I helped set up a lot of stuff. The main Idea for my next project is making a simulation station. The idea is to let people gain experience in something they might not be comfortable doing.

This week I pretty much worked on audio stuff the whole time. We went through a lot of receivers and speakers. The only thing left is the sonos.
