    Independent Study Proposal

    Independent Study Application Reflection

    1. Project Name: The Color Project

    2. Project purpose: To identify the brain wave patterns associated with different colors, to look for a signature pattern and possibly discover one.

    3. What will I measure: I will record brain waves of different people when they look at different colors

    4. What tools will I use to measure this: EEG headset, LifeSciences software, 3D brain Visualizer software, computer and a box with three colors (I already have that set up).

    5. What resources do I need: I need the software, the EEG headset and various books on electroencephalography that are in the energy lab.

    6. What impact will your project have: The impact of my project will be the contribution to the overall study of the brain. Studying brain has always been a very important study and there has already been studies on brain’s shape and color perception and I think that finding a pattern associated with each color could actually contribute to all the studies people have already made in order for us to understand how our brain functions.

    7. What legacy will your project leave? Other students at HPA could continue working on the brain project that I am doing right now and use it as a foundation or a starting point of their own projects.

    8. Rationale: What is the reason for this independent study

There are several reasons why I want to do an independent study on brain activity. First of all, no other classes provide an opportunity to learn more about how our brain works and I’ve always wanted to learn about the brain activity because understanding the way the brain works is a very valuable knowledge. I want to do an independent study because it gives an opportunity to design a project that does not only involve theoretical knowledge but also allows to create an experiment to have a real life data to support your project. I see an independent study as an opportunity to learn how to design my own project and have an independent learning plan with no boundaries of learning to it. Moreover, I want to continue working on my project from last year in order to reach more detailed conclusions.

    9. Course Outcome (please list the outcomes of the course—that is, what specific things do you expect to learn from the course? How do you plan to learn the information?)

Guiding Question: What are the brain wave patterns associated red, green and blue in a relaxed state?

What I expect to learn from this course is whether there is a certain brain pattern associated with primary colors of light. I plan on learning this information by making research on this topic, finding statistics, using 3D Visualizer software and testing people. Also I’m hoping to expand on the project once I find those patterns by including colorblind people in the project because it would be very interesting to see how their brain patterns associated with these colors may be different.
