Today I read about theta waves and the role they play in meditation. Theta is considered the border between the conscious and subconscious mind, and by 'waking' theta waves, we can interact more with our subconscious. This makes sense, as mediation typically helps us to vacate our conscious mind. Deep meditation and hypnosis therapy can help to stimulate theta waves, practices that can potentially improve memory. However, a meditative state is not ideal when trying to learn. Meditation outside of the classroom could possibly contribute to more attentiveness inside of the classroom, which is an idea I have to research more. Lots of research has been done on theta waves using rats, with EEG readings varying a lot during different activities. Theta waves are really interesting and complex, as brainwaves, I've come to find, generally are.
