Last Weeks Ames Progress

Over the past week, Sneha, Sameer, and I have met several times to work on the NASA Ames project. Here is a summary of what we have decided so far:
  • The first settlement will be located at the L4 Lagrange point
    • Much more stable than the other Earth-Moon Lagrange points.
  • We will use the Stanford torus design with no support beams but instead held together with electromagnetism
    • Easier to create artificial gravity
  • There will be seven tori; three for habitation, two for industry, and two for agriculture
    • Torus #1: 7.2 km diameter, 40,000 people,
    • Tori #2 and #3: 5.4 km diameter, 30,000 people
    • Tori #4 and #5: 4.05 km diameter, agriculture
    • Tori #6 and #7: 3.04 km diameter, industry
  • There will also be two Bernal Spheres on both sides of the structure
  • Travel between the tori will be provided through "space buses" which will travel between the tori to the center shaft every 10 minutes.
