I spent class finishing up my student corner page, digging up old proposals and studying for APS. Also added 200 of fertilizer to the reservoir along with 1L of water.

This week was a mix of preparations for the near future and the future that is near but not that near. The near future being the capstone presentations through research and tabulating and recording data. Also did a bit of work with the Space team regarding the new page. We should have a complete draft with everyone's part in the next few days atleast after AP exams.

Today was spent mostly preparing for the capstone end of year presentation. This was done with more research as well as some dating recording for the hydroponics. On another note, I had an extra seedling from my crop so I gifted it, Angelina. For some crazy reason she named it after me so hopefully, the plant will not die due to lack of sleep.

A bit of a quick class in ISR today. Spent most of it monitoring my plants and working on the Space page. Finally added some fertiliser today as the Ec decreased. Also, the time between flood and drains was increased from 1 to 2 hours as the water was stagnating in the system causing root rot. When it comes to space hydroponics I was able to find some of NASA's original hydroponic or solution based growing systems online which is quite exciting.

Today in ISR we finalised the plans for the space page. The Space page will encompass all, the extraterrestrial related projects that have been conducted and come to some sort of fruition. My page will involve mostly hydroponics as well as the HIGH SEAS telemetry. The other members will include their internships and their work with muons, radios what have you.

Made a few substitutions on the plants today. removed the parsley and replaced it with the seedlings I have been growing for the past few weeks. This was done to prevent any feed me Seymour situations that seemed imminent. Also had a powwow with Space girls to try and establish a SPACE page for the lab that would include all of our pojects as well as the HIGHSEAS and monbase ideas.

This week in ISR we conducted an experiment involving the growth rate and the medium involved with several of the plants, This was done by replacing the soil with stones we used previously in other hydroponic endeavours. To do this we also labelled each plant to be sure of the differences in growth. Also completed a few odd jobs such as moving a fallen antenna and reconnecting the weather station by reconnecting a few wires.

Besides moving the large antenna that was felled by the strong Waimea winds I switched one of the potted; lettuce plants from a soil medium to stones we previously used to conduct an experiment on how this would affect the rate of growth of the root ball and the plant overall. In other news, the seedlings are no longer seedlings as about 3 of them have begun to grow rapidly and will soon need to be moved.

The plants especially the basil has been affected by sapsuckers. In order to try and curb this problem, we have applied an oil to each the plants that serve as an irritant to the insects to prevent further damage to the plants. In order to verify that there was a reduction in the number of predators, I used a magnifying glass to check if there any more sap suckers still present on the leaves.

Thanks to Dr Bill for making me "Instagram famous" today, Repairing the antenna was a very fun job and a nice change of pace from my usual antics. Crawling under to back of the elab to run a wire while heckled by Briana will be ingrained in my memory for years to come. Tha antenna seems to

transmit which is and hopefully, nothing I did will cause it to explode.

This week in ISR we have started a study to measure the root balls of each of the plants. In order to keep track of we have given a name to each plant. The names are the surnames of various famous scientists. I know how delightful. The measurements will be based on pictures taken at the end of each week. I would like to see more development Ec of system has not changed significantly since the day we established the system.

Now I literally have a team of physicists growing in solution at elab. I may have gone a bit nerdy and named each plant after a famous scientist ranging from Newton to Sagaon to Curie. I will say this the plants are much smarter now. I did this in an attempt to conduct a study regarding the root balls. As the roots have not been growing at the usual rate I am concerned. This could be due to the soil as it retains moisture so the roots do not feel the need to grow much larger.

The plants still have not developed complex root systems which is a bit worrying. I will wait one more week before looking for an alternative, however. As such the Ec has remained the same at 2.6 and the weather has been ridiculously wet and cold so the temperatures have not been above 70 degrees. The seedlings are doing well with 5 germinations and some more that will likely be successful.

Quite a downpour today. Did some reconnaissance regarding the fenceline system. May have gotten a bit soaked in the process. The plan for the fenceline is: To run a power source to the designated area on the hill.
To establish a wifi connection to another blue lab monitor in the same area. to recreate the bucket system but have each of the buckets separate to prevent blockage. Lastly to have a feasible crop before the end of the semester.

Very productive week in ISR I would like to say. Re-established hydroponics and made plans regarding the fenceline system. Tested out a new pump today for the flood and drain. This pump, however, was not as strong as the repurposed older version aerator we had running. I could, however, attach a secondary outlet to increase the airflow and see how much stronger the pump would get or l have the two outlets running separately and place them in the bucket system.

Got a new pump for the flood and drain installation. However, the pump that we had refurbished recent is much stronger. This pump though can use two outlets which will be useful on the fenceline. Ec is still 2.5 and the temperature has actually decreased to 66 degrees rather being in the 70s as usual.

Also designed the area for the fence line see picture below.

Spent today cleaning out the buckets for the fencing project. The area we will use is about halfway up the line and between the solar panels. The Ec for the flood and drain remained the same at 2.5. It must mean that that the root systems of the few seedlings have not completely developed. I will have to start checking the trends so I can know when to add more fertilizer.
