AP WEEK

I have AP's almost everyday this week.

WeekSummary

I was not able to accomplish much in regards to the antenna this week either because of an issue with my demerits and my supposed involvement in a scheme which misused the elab priveleges. I hope that next week i am actually able to do something useful with my time.

Today in class, Doctor Bil mentioned it was good idea to post my research progress on the student corner page Mr.halstead created. That I did and posted on the student corner. All I really had to do was write a simple biography and post a summarizing picture of what my project looked like. For the rest of class the space team discussed posting strategies for our space page.

Today I couldn't do much in class because I had to meet with doctor bill regarding an issue with my demerits.

Today in class I applied the finishing touches on to my antenna and started off creating a google document listing all of the materials I need for the PVC mast. I hope to share this list with doctor bill before the start of next class so I can make progress. For the remainder of class I took up my time brainstorming more ideas for our space page in the center room of the elab and reminded doctor bill to start the wiki page.

WeekSummary

This week was very unproductive for me because I was sick 2/3 classes we had this week. However, I did get a few things done. I helped design the main outline for our space page and as instructed we are supposed to wait until doctor bill makes a wiki page for it. As for antenna construction, I need a huge list of things for the pvc mast because i have finished consturction of the insulator portion. Next class I wil start a google doc listing everything I need.

Sorry for this being late. I was feeling sick this day and forgot to mention that I was not in class.

Today I planned out some of what the space page would look like with Sameer, Brianna and Angelina in the conference room. For the first few minutes of class, we were required to fill out a survey on where we would like to present our projects. I said the E-Lab conference room because it just gives off a very professional feeling. I wanted to be able to have the people I am presenting to all sitting around that large marble table. Back to the space page, I wrote down a rough draft of what I wanted my radio jove page and solar weather widget to say. More updates soon!

Today in class, Doctor Bill set me Angelina and Brianna up with the task of creating a Space Page. So for the entire day we spent our time designing the outline of the page. We decided to have an interactive background with a background of Mauna loa and icons such as mars, the HI-SEAS habitat, the moon and an antenna. When each is clicked these will lead to the seperate pages. More updates and pictures to come soon once we have discussed this with Brianna.

Weekend Summary

This week was primarily filled with me waiting on the rope. I focused on the laser cutting guides and trying to fully understand antenna theory. I found a few links I will leave down below that explain the idea really well. In addition to this, I made some considerable progress on the antenna on Friday. I started to assemble the meat or the insulator portion of the telescope. I will add some pictures in a few days once I have completed that. Next week I am hoping to complete the assembly of the antenna and the week after that start listening on the secrets of the universe.
More to come soon as always!

Thursday April 26, 2018

Today in class, Doctor Bill finally remembered to bring the UV protected rope. As a result of this momentous occasion, I cut the rope into the desired lengths and began to start creating the antenna structure. It needed to be two separate pieces of 2ft each. After doing this I wrapped each insulator with the wire and then made at least three intersections of insulators and copper wire. I will update this post with pictures later:

Today in class, I did not do much because of the upcoming statistics test. I tried to attach each insulator to the copper wire. I could not move much further because I didn't have the rope today either. Here are some pictures of the day:

Week Summary

This week I have not done much in the realm of the antenna construction because I have found that I now need UV protected rope. So while Doctor Bill gets thats for me I was left around to use my time to organize all of the other materials. I spent some time this week cutting and measuring out how much co-axial cable I would need. In addition to this I spent my time reading about the cool different types of laser cutting projects I want to pursue. I'll update this post later with a few links to those:

Today I didn't get to do very much done because Doctor Bill didn't get the UV protected rope he suggested we use. Instead I worked on my laser cutting skills and tried to learn how to different depths of font. I wanted to be able to make parts that connected together well so they would create a more 3-D shape. For the rest of class I spent my time just re-reading the instruction manual to get a good grasp on what I was actually going to be doing for the next few weeks.

Tuesday April 17, 2018

Today I started out by talking to doctor bill about my plan. We had to discuss how we were going to present our projects at the end of the year. I said that my work in ISR has been concentrated primarily in the astronomical field. My research has been spotty but successful and taught me how to set goals for everything. For the rest of class, I spent most of my time cutting out the coaxial cable into the necessary sections. I thought that the best idea would be to make the angle 90 degrees so in order to incorporate those calculations I cut approximately 8 ft of the coaxial cable for the phasing cable. Next class I will need some rope which will be used to hold the wires out. I will update pictures later!

Monday April 16, 2018

Today I spent the beginning of class explaining what a toroid core was and Doctor Bill went into an even more in-depth explanation. After we went around the room and everyone started discussing the progress they have made on their projects. For the rest of the class, I started to perform the first task necessary to build the telescope. The manual provided a detailed checklist. I began by cutting the copper wire that was provided into 12 ft 4 inches pieces. I then began to divide the co-axial cable into the necessary sections. I am not sure how to cut this wire yet but I'll figure it out next class. Here are some pictures from today.

Week Summary

This week was overall very productive for me. I learned the most I have about how the telescope antennas work. My goal for this week was to try and begin to assemble the telescope. I achieved this goal and I was even able to focus some energy on learning the ins and outs of laser cutting. For the next week, my goal is to be able to construct the mast for the single dipole antenna.
More updates to come soon!
