What have I done?

Over the semester I found muon detectors, figured out how to record live muon data using them, and then figured out what to do with them (besides staring at the light that blinks whenever a muon registers). I have set up a muon-inater in the elab, with a computer that (when running) shows live muon data. Also, next to the computer and muon detectors, I have a few posters explaining what I am doing. In the future, I am planning to make a TRNG using the muon detectors (and I have put up a poster that explains random number generators).

I also have been trying to get the telescope working again... but Arne was too busy frolicking in Greece... hopefully next semester he'll grace us with his presence so that I can actually get the telescope running.Screenshot 2024-12-08 at 6.14.13 PM.png

Today I played around with the FPV drone. It was super fun.

Today I read about trngs and prngs. The issue with prngs is not that they arent good at modeling randomness (as they are super good at it), but the fact that if someone knows the seed you used for the prng, they can get the exact same sequence. That's why all calculators get the same random numbers in the same order if you reset them. Also, fun story from my dad, once in a cs class he accidentally did something wrong, giving all of the ghosts he had added the same seed, and so they all (almost every run) moved in the same, but random, directions in sync. I am thinking of using a prng in a trng (which in my opinion is so cool and meta), and when a muon hits, the timestamp is used as the seed for a prng, and the first digit the prng generates  is chosen as the output

Today I collected the data, looked at it, and shared it with my computer. The file is here and can be displayed using this website (it's super slow but cool to look at once it loads).

Today I made it so that the computer won't turn off while it is supposed to be collecting data (because when it turns off it loses the connection and stops recording data). I also reread my infographic/poster and thought about things that could be done with the data we should hopefully be collecting. It could be cool to compare my muon data with ionosonde data.

Today I finished the poster linked HERE. Also, Arne is alive!!! Also, I checked on the data collected by the detectors.
