Today I primarily played with the lasers that Alice and I are going to use to detect particulate in the air for the purpose of monitoring vog content on the HPA Campus. We tried to use the high powered green laser to light a match, but we had the incorrect type of match, and on further inspection of the laser, we discovered that it was 5mW rather than the suggested 55mW. It was not as high powered as we had expected. That was a bummer because we had spent time researching interesting experiments for a 55mW green laser. (the color is important because it changes the wave length). At the end of class, Dr. Bill gave Alice and I a 500mW laser with a broken lens to look it. I really wish it worked because you can use one to burn holes through paper.
