Independent Study Proposal

Stroop Effect

Project Purpose:

Investigating on the "Stroop Effect" - a psychological demonstration of interference in the reaction time of a task: when the name of a color is printed in a color not denoted by the name, naming the color of the word takes longer and is more prone to errors than when the color of the ink matches the name of the color.

What you will measure?

Brain activities when taking the stroop test.

How you measure it?

Counting the frequencies of the brain waves that are involved in the process and compare different types of waves.

What tools will you use to measure this?

- Emotiv EEG headset

- EmotivLifeSciences software

- Saline Solution

What resources do you need?

- Practical Approach to Electroencephalography (Mark H. Libenson)

- AP Psychology book

- Stroop Test Online: http://www.onlinestrooptest.com/stroop_effect_test.php

What impact will your project have?

By experimenting on brain waves, this project will help us analyze the characters and effects of reacting behaviors on the base of stroop effect, therefore understanding the difference between vision and verbal ability and how each part of the brain functions. It also contributes to the brain study that has long been researched in science, and specifically really important in neuroscience.

What legacy will your project leave?

I am the founder of the project. It first starts this year and I hope to inspire other students to continue my work in future.
