Team,
Please complete the Multiple Choice (MC) and Free Response (FR) questions at the end of the Princeton Review (PR) chapter on populations (pop)...:-)
Here is the link:
Thursday, we'll have a test on chapters 3 and 4. What will it cover? Chapters 3 and 4, of course. I'd look over the notes on this weblog, as well as the PR questions from tonight.
I really enjoyed our chat about urban sprawl, if that's possible. Here is a link to the e2 video on Portland for Thursday night:
Do you recognize the narrator?
Here are the questions for Sunday night:
- Portland was on the path of suburban sprawl in the 1960's. What happened?
- 1973 was a pivotal year there, what happened?
- What was the initial reason for the mandate?
- Explain a UGB.
- Accessibility vs. mobility is the choice they made, like in Switzerland, as well as other European cities. What do you see in the video that you might also see in Europe?
- Who is the first class passenger in Portland?
- Cities in Europe have vibrant city centers, and are great cities to walk around. How is this done in Portland?
- Explain "trip behavior".
- How much did property values increase in the Pearl district after the trolley went in? Why? (note the amount of glass in each trolley). http://www.explorethepearl.com/
- Where in Europe do they also have aerial trams? Notice a trend?
- Explain "lifestyle migrants".
- What is "gentrification"? Where else have you seen this? (hint: look up the term "landed gentry")
- What things in the video do you recognize that show a bike friendly city?
- What does the man mean about a "burlap future"?
- How does the concept of choice resonate with values in this country? What do you think?
We'll also begin diving into chapter 5 over the weekend, so check the weblog after the exam for our reading assignment.
As always, let me know if I can help.
