Team,
What we learned today:
Quorum sensing and mutualism with Bonnie Bassler of Princeton on TED.com
Lab format:
title-name of your lab
background-why is it relevant
purpose-what you hope to investigate or prove
materials-what you need
procedure-how you use it
data-only numbers and graphs
observation-only words
analysis-excuses, problems, suggestions
conclusions-refer back to purpose
We also did a mini-lab on population growth
∆N/∆t = rN
population growth depends on rate (r) and base population (N)
n.b. zero growth is actually negative growth (why?)
Things due:
Sunday night:
one question on the TED talk
one question on the e2 video
Practice quiz 6-10 (end of chapter)
practice quiz on the wiki (wiki 3.1)
google earth demo questions (see wiki on ch 3.1)
chapter 4 overview-check here for a list of chapter 4 notes and key questions for the week.
Tuesday:
Bring your lab to class for revisions/suggestions, this will be due Thursday of the week
We'll extend our work on populations (chapter 4)
Thursday:
Population lab is due, quiz on chapter 3, more on chapter 4.
I'll open the lab Saturday morning for those of you not scaling the 13,796 ft. mountain that morning.
I'll also open on Sunday, and I will be here from 3-5 PM Sunday afternoon to help with your assignments.
Remember what they used to say about elections in Chicago: "vote early, and vote often"
Read early, read often...
Let me know how I can help.
